What Prime For Life covers
Prime For Life is judgment-free. Instead of scare tactics, it works through practical questions:
- How alcohol and drug problems develop, and why anyone can face them
- Why some people are at higher risk, including tolerance and family history
- What lower-risk choices look like in real situations
- How impairment affects judgment, health and driving
- How your choices protect the people and goals you care about
The program draws on motivational interviewing, persuasion research and cognitive behavioral therapy. Every participant uses a Prime For Life workbook and leaves with a personal plan to reduce their risk.
Who gets ordered to take it
Courts, probation departments, schools and employers order Prime For Life by name. Common reasons include:
- A DUI, DWI or OWI charge
- A minor in possession (MIP) or other under-21 alcohol charge
- Probation for an alcohol- or drug-related offense
- A school discipline referral
- A workplace policy violation
Some states, including Georgia, Iowa and Kentucky, use Prime For Life in their own DUI programs, run through providers the state approves and often in person. Our class is not one of those programs. If your requirement comes from a DMV, the Secretary of State, or a state DUI program, confirm with them before you book.
How long is Prime For Life?
Prevention Research Institute’s versions of Prime For Life run from 4.5 to 20 hours, and whoever orders it usually sets the hours. Book exactly the number on your paperwork. Prices for our Prime For Life class, workbook included:

| 12 hours | $250 |
| 16 hours | $325 |
| 20 hours | $400 |
The 4.5-hour version is a separate edition for teens and parents. If your paperwork calls for it, or for a length we don’t list, call (734) 834-6934 before you book.
Taking Prime For Life online
Our class is live on Zoom with Jennifer Schroeder, M.S., CADC, who completed Prevention Research Institute’s Prime For Life New Instructor Training in September 2026. It is not a self-paced video, and attendance is checked during class. The moment your booking is paid, we email you a Proof of Enrollment letter for your court, probation officer, school or employer.
Your signed letter of completion is emailed to you the day you finish your required hours. It names the Prime For Life program and carries a certificate ID anyone can check at schroedercounseling.com/verify.
Before you book
Whoever ordered your class decides what it accepts, so confirm the number of hours and whether a live online class counts. If your order asks for an assessment or evaluation first, start with a substance abuse evaluation. Our guide to taking Prime For Life online covers when an online class can count.
If your court or probation department does not accept the certificate we issued for your class, we refund your payment in full. Contact us within 30 calendar days of your completion date and include written documentation from the court or probation department. See our guarantee for details.
